Vital Statistics: We weighed you at Grammy’s house (she has a scale!) using the tried and true weigh-the-adult-then-weigh-the-adult-holding-the-baby method and got 21 pounds. TWENTY ONE POUNDS! I looked up the growth charts online and baby, you are not on them. You are amazing.
Developmental Milestones: Still with the grabbing. You can now grab your feet, which seems significant. You’re venturing into “tripod sitting,” which is not quite sitting up but it’s close. You have rolled over twice, and get AWFULLY close constantly. Any day now you are going to start rolling and not stop till you hit a wall. Also! You have been sitting in high chairs! Some of them are still a little too big but we just stick a rolled-up blanket in there and you’re good. Now we just need to get a high chair for our apartment.
Eating: You seem to have leveled out with your eating. You eat about the same amount at daycare every day. You’ve increased your night eating (more on that below!), but I feel like we’ve developed a good system and you’re a much more efficient nurser, for which I am very grateful. You’re also way interested in what WE’RE eating lately, which we think might be an early sign that you’re getting ready for solids. We’ll start those closer to 6 months, so watch out world: adorable pictures of a a food-covered baby are coming soon!
Sleeping: Ohmygoodness. This month has NOT been a good sleeping month. The experts call it the “4-month sleep regression.” We call it NOT COOL. You’ve literally been waking up every hour or 90 minutes most nights. We’re a little bit at our wits’ ends, and have been reading some books and trying a few things. We really hope this phase is over soon, for all of our sakes, because we need some sleep.
Likes: You finally got a Sophie like all the other cool kids, and boy do you love to eat it. You also like your Winkel. And really basically anything that you can grab and pull into your mouth. You’re starting to really like sitting up in various chairs at home and at daycare. We may have to break down and get you a giant garish plastic exersaucer.
Dislikes: Sleeping, apparently.
New Friends: You started a new AWESOME daycare right after your 4-month mark and met a bunch of new friends. There are 4 toddler girls in your room who LOVE you! When we show up in the morning to drop you off they start squealing “Baby! Baby! Baby!” and they pull over the bouncy seat you like to sit in and after we strap you into that they shower you with germy kisses and probably poke you in the eye but it’s really delightful. Right now daycare is in the middle of transitioning kids up, so in a few weeks you’ll go from being the youngest in the room to the oldest. Very exciting!
We started venturing farther afield this month; you got to meet Jim, Megan and Godfrey in Baltimore; then we went to Grammy’s in Virginia where you met Aunt Kasey, Uncle Chance, and new cousin Clyde; and finally we visited Great-Grandmother Bryner’s farm in North Carolina where you also met your Great-Uncles Darrell. We also took a short trip to meet your new friend Charlie. It’s so strange that you are no longer the youngest/littlest baby among our friends and family!
Adventures: So many road trips! In Baltimore with Godfrey and his parents we went to the Science Center. We went to Annapolis to walk around the boats and eat seafood. On our really long trip, we went to Grammy and Pappy’s house in the middle of
nowhere Virginia, then south to Great Grandma’s farm in North Carolina. Closer to home, we’ve been enjoying free concerts in the park by the river on Friday nights. (Photos of EDB’s Adventures)
